Armenia : Armenia is my ancestral homeland and has always played a vital role in motivating and inspiring my photography. The images below are from four separate trips in February and September of 2008, and April and September of 2011. In February 2008, the achromatic landscapes of wintertime Armenia lent themselves perfectly to the subtleties of infrared photography. Even in late summer and early fall, the Armenian highlands were dominated by the snowscapes of its majestic mountains. Color photographs of Armenia can be found here. Death Valley and Eastern Sierra : Going up Highway 395, the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway, has become routine during the last couple of years... When Highway 14 finally ends at the 395, arid desert is replaced by the wondrous Owens Valley, home to the Alabama Hills and much more. Lone Pine is my base here, and I find myself traveling toward Death Valley National Park just as often as driving up toward Mono Lake or the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains. The following photos were taken during during a 3-day road trip through the Eastern Sierras in September, 2010, during a March 2012 weekend in Death Valley National Park, during a 27-hour road trip through the Eastern Sierras (also in March 2012), a weekend drive up to Mono Lake in March 2013, and a 30-hour road trip to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in May 2013.

The Cool Warmth of Trees : The Cool Warmth of Trees, shot entirely in infrared and in black & white, was born from the desire to see treescapes in the “color of warmth.” Unlike conventional black & white photos that assign drab grays to tree leaves and consign clouds to battle the sky for contrast, digital infrared photography highlights these: leaves, exuding the warmth of life, appear white, as do clouds against black skies. The ageless bark of oak trees borders the black, while bamboo, supersized grasses really, show their youth in appearing entirely white.
