I had the pleasure of watching three sunsets in Sedona, and each time I was surprised by the evolution of colors long after the Sun had disappeared below the horizon. I was convinced that this first sunset, atop Cathedral Rock, would be a "dud" as the cloud cover to the west was too thick... But then, the sky lit up, and more than ten minutes after "official" sunset, this happened. It was the best gift for my tired eyes, and I stayed in this spot long after the light had faded. The unique sandstone formation of Cathedral Rock in Sedona offers many peeks at the surrounding landscape. This window eastward is a favorite view at sunrise, but I found the lighting to be perfect as the Sun emerged from behind a layer of clouds just above the western horizon. Photographed May 2020.
Oak Creek is the only major waterway in Sedona, and is really "major" in one spot, where it's wide enough to catch the reflection of Cathedral Rock upon its rushing waters. I'll share that "classic" (meaning overphotographed) view later, but in the meantime, I found this section of Oak Creek much more photogenic. Photographed May 2020.
