It shouldn't be the beauty of nature, or the date on the calendar that reminds us how special our planet is for all its inhabitants... It shouldn't matter whether we are or are not the only "intelligent" life forms in this galaxy or this Universe... It shouldn't matter how we vote or whether we have children... Earth Day is a simple reminder that 7.7 billion humans and countless billions of other organisms share a fragile planet whose ecosystem and limited resources we have taxed beyond anyone's wildest imagination. On this Earth Day, join me in pledging to pay more attention not just to our personal and short term needs, but to the needs of our children and of generations to come.
