One of the last photos taken during the hike, the Wall Street portion of the Zion Narrows in infrared.
Clouds covered all but the eastern horizon on this day, and the Sun soon had a fight on its hands to shine on the Mesquite Dunes. Photographed February 8, 2015.
Plato claimed that our world is an imperfect projection of the ideal, but what if that projection was three- dimensional and anamorphic? Five images of this tree appear in these pages, and each time we are presented with a different two-dimensional projection, a distinct side highlighting different branches and textures. When presented with such a wonder, we find it natural to walk around the tree, mindful of its roots, and see for ourselves the diversity of visages it presents to us. But imagine the wonder that the jays, magpies, and ravens feel when they soar and revolve about the tree, seeing it from above and below, from near and far... Photographed October 2015, Schulman Grove.
